Over the course of three and a half years, Michael Alan's Draw-A-Thon Theater has developed into a multi-level, interactive art project. The performance can and has been done everywhere in New York City, from theaters, to the streets, to galleries, to a church on Governers Island, to a recent guerilla performance inside the Whitney Museum. We are very pleased to be in our new home, at Jack The Pelican Presents, which is one of the most innovative gallery spaces in Williamsburg. For three Saturdays in August, Directed by Michael Alan, the Draw-A-Thon team will be showcasing three performance pieces. Artists will be drawing simultaneously right inside the gallery and the whole event will photographed, filmed and watched by curious onlookers. The experience is a continuous loop of output and input with all parts informing each other and adding to an overall experience. All of this takes place in the gallery setting where art is usually only an object and not an action.
Saturday August 23rd - Draw-A-Thon Torture
The Draw-A-Thon Performance Troop will eat each other, cellophane their faces together, battle for yarn. The show will include poses of torture, acts of true love inspired by pain, faces submerged in goo and a tug of the human, two hour act
Saturday August 30th - The Draw-A-Thon Circus
Step right up to the circus from Hell. Every circus in the world is outraged that we are naked and don't play by the rules of traditional circus practice, so we decided to make our own circus, Come one, come all to draw the female skeleton, the eight year Pregnant Lady, the Man/Women, the Chicken Man, the Nine Armed Man, and our special Evil Clown. Many more freaks to come including you.
Draw-A-Thon Theater was founded by artist, Michael Alan in 2005 and he has brought this hybrid art extravaganza to thousands of artist since its inception.
